Emotional Intelligence - Section H
The emotional intelligence presentation focused on ten tips to improving your emotional intelligence. The tips included an applied definition, and and "take action" steps. Please post in this blog on one of these tips. First, choose a tip to begin your journey to improving your emotional intelligence. Discuss why you are choosing this tip, and then, tell me how you plan on putting these suggestions for "take action" in play in your own life to promote your own emotional intelligence.

The Ethics of Interviewing - Section H
How would you handle ethically handle this employment situation as proposed in our text, “Communicating at Work” by Adler and Elmhorst? You know that an employee has been leaving work early for the past several months. You hope he will volunteer this information, without you having to confront him. During his performance appraisal, how can you raise the issue with this employee? This blog comment is due by the beginning of class on Friday, Feb. 13th.

Organizational Culture - Section H
The culture of an organization can be powerful influence on one's success and satisfaction on the job. What dimensions distinguish one workplace culture to another? One theory that suggests that several dimensions exist at work. Adler and Elmhorst list eight dimensions listed on pgs. 64-65 in our text "Communicating at Work." Discuss in this blog which of these dimensions must exist in your future work situation for your individual success and satisfaction. Be sure to include your career/job aspiration and some details to how the dimension fits into your daily work life. Then, choose a dimension that you feel is your last choise and is a dimesnion that you do not feel particularly is necessary for your future plans. This blog post is due by the beginning of class on Friday, Feb. 6.

Using Ethics in Our Communication - Section H
Section H: Comment on the method for handling the situation below. Decide on a course of action using one or more or the ethical guidelines highlighted in our text on p.12. The course of action must be both principled and realistic. Be sure to justify yourr answer.
Scenario: You are attending a speech in in a speech class at a local University. A student is giving a speech and decides to use vulgar terms, and foul language as his way of making his information vivid and memorable. Is it ever apprpropriate to use language that is obscene, or possibility offensive in a academic or professional setting?

Welcome to Com 290
Welcome. We will be using this blog to submit course homework assignments and speech critiques. Blog assignments will have due dates. Students not posting by the due dates will not receive course points for the assignment. I am not necessarily looking for lengthy comments but, am expecting depth and details. Any student posting a comment that appears rushed, without thoughtfulness, and/or containes grammar or spelling issues will receive a deduction of points or not receive credit for the blog assignment. You should always check that you are posting under your course section. I will always post twice each post. One post for section H and one post for Section I. No credit will be given if you post in the wrong class. Let's have an enjoyable semester. I am here for each of you to support your efforts in all course assignments and discussions.
